Buck Sexton, a conservative radio host, reacts on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show to the October 8 Michigan Senate debate between Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.
Clay, I love where your head's at on this. A few things. First of all, Mike Rodgers did a really good job. And credit where it's due, because I've been worried about the media momentum that El Sayed has in that.
Because you can just see it.
I mean, you and I live online and see all the different campaigns and commentary and the polls and everything else. El Sayed felt like there was this momentum behind him. I think that Rodgers did all that he could be reasonably asked to do to blunt that momentum just by showing who this guy really is. As you pointed out, I think very aptly, because El Sayed has no voting record, he's whatever he says he wants to be whenever he needs to say it, right? So you have to go based upon the words that he uses to describe his philosophy, his And that is far outside of the Michigan mainstream. And I hope Michiganders see through it. Enough of them do that Mike Rogers pulls off what is, by the way, I don't, this is not a, I've never said, to be clear, it's a foregone conclusion there. I just thought that Al-Sayed had the momentum. I think maybe we'll see that turn now. That is a coin flip race as far as I'm concerned right now.
That could go either way. So credit to Mike.
And was there another one you want to know?
This is the cut that I think really kind of went to the essence from the act. So that's an ad that started running that I saw yesterday. And I think it's a great ad and I hope it's going to be widely distributed. Here is what I thought was one of those one or two minute clips that is going to echo…

And I'm Jessica Tarlov.
…voters over the economic impact. And in all of this turmoil, Cal Street Markets currently has the Democrats Michigan's of sweeping the House and the Senate in November at 61%. I can't get over this, Jess. Just, wow, has the momentum here? I wish the election were tomorrow. What are your thoughts?
…thing. More transparency is always a bonus. But two big moves. And in the last day or so, Mike Rogers and Ashley Henson, so pivotal races, Michigan and Iowa on the Republican side posting that Donald Trump has got to end the war in Iran. And this had, you know, been, especially Ashley Henson, very much behind the president and what he wants to do or what he's going to accomplish there in Iran. Mike Rogers, the last couple of weeks have been slightly more tepid, but this is a real line in the sand. Like, we got to get out of there if you think that we're going to be able to win any of these elections. And, you know, Michigan is a pickup opportunity for the Republicans. And I think that they were to not necessarily a large degree, but were licking their lips at having Abdul El-Sayed on the ballot versus a more moderate candidate like a Haley Stevens or even Mallory McMurrow when she was still in the race. And he's been polling much stronger than certainly the first few weeks after he won the…
I just, I never want to feel sympathetic to the White House, but you have calls from both the left, Senator Murphy, a lot of people on the left. Just get out. Just leave. We should have never been there. Leave. This was a mistake of epic proportions. Leave. And you have Republican consultants…

Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, describes the final stretch of his campaign on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, about a week before the election.
Listen to this, Buck.
…confused on alaskan ballots i'm sure you're seeing all sorts of crazy tactics all over michigan too they're pulling out all the dirty stops and of course this is the campaign that claims they care so much about voter integrity and democracy what are you seeing on the ground what can you tell us oh.
My gosh yes and even worse than that so we we have a guy who has associated with The Muslim Brotherhood, which he's lied about constantly, won't answer questions to the press. But the other day they put a commercial that insinuates he was raised as a Presbyterian from his adopted parents. Wow. Grandparents, adopted grandparents. It's kind of crazy that they would make that leap. They're just saying anything, doing anything. We anticipate that they're not going to be stand-up citizens going into this thing, and so I think we're ready for all of that. And this is for all the marvels. This is really not left or right anymore. This is really about the heart and soul of the country here. And boy, this is going to be a game of inches. So we're on a 12-day, 60-stop bus tour that's going phenomenally well. Our excitement in the crowds are great. We have Senator Cruz... with us on the bus stop today, who, by the way, wants me to ask about Tennessee football over the weekend.
I'm trying not to think about that, by the way. We choked against South Carolina late. Tell Senator Cruz I appreciate him bringing that up. I was trying to forget it.
I think he knew what he was doing. I think there had been a little shivving going on in that whole thing. But I tell you what, we are excited about people coming, kind of awareness. People start to put on their jerseys. People start to say, hey, this guy's dangerous. I mean, he's really dangerous.…
Senator Rogers is You are going to run through the tape. We know that.
Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, describes his campaign's read of early-vote returns on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, about a week before the election. He says his campaign relies on modeling because Michigan has no party registration.
Early voting is underway. We've got a big audience in Michigan. I know you said you're on this barnstorming tour all over the state. What are the early voting numbers looking like so far as you can see? And why is it important if people can in Michigan to get out and vote early for you?
Just explain all that.
…here, so we can't say, you know, Mike Rogers voted, he's a registered Republican. We can't see that. But we have modeling for these folks and, you know, have identified people who are low propensity Republican voters, high propensity Republican voters. So when you just lay it down and say, okay, if these people vote, they are likely to vote for you by modeling. And this is pretty accurate. We're leading the return rate. Now, this doesn't mean we're up by seven points, but the return rate is 7% higher than the Democrats. That's much better than it was in 2022 by a significant margin. So we're thinking that that's people who are fired up and excited to make sure that Abdul does not get into the United States Senate. And we think that's a huge important statistic for us. that we're just continuing to do the right thing. And when you vote early, which we wish you would, off our list, you would expect sort of that or more mail or kind of door. And we are pretty sophisticated at…
Okay, rogersforsenate.com. He's cutting up there because he's on the campaign trail.
I think he's breaking up a little bit, but he's saying go get your ballots in and get your friends and neighbors get their ballots in as well. But those numbers are very, very encouraging. Buck's on the side of the good guys now. Mike Rogers is going to win the website, rogersforsenate.com.
Rogersforsenate.com, guys. Everyone in Michigan, don't just go vote. Tell your friends to vote. Make sure you get somebody else to go vote.
Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, is interviewed on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show about a week before the election. He was asked which voter groups could decide the race.
Faith in you, Senator. I'm not going to lie.
…has to show up. We know the Trump voter has to show up. Who else has to come out for you that you think is the difference-maker constituency in your state of Michigan? Give me some of the profiles or some of the demos, or who do you think can be the difference-maker for you in these final days?
…country right now. We've just crossed 7 million doors, which has never been done here. College Republicans came in last weekend and just college Republicans knocked on 20,000 doors last week. I mean, it's just Really, really impressive. And we're just not cut canvas in neighborhoods. It's very targeted. So it's huge and valuable. Then we're going to add this Jewish Democrats to our coalition. And here's the one that's been pleasantly surprising for us. African-American voters in Detroit and Pontiac and Flint. And we're not going to win those areas. We know that. But could we move that needle 5% and 6% and 7%? We think absolutely yes. It's going so well, we ended up opening an office. in Detroit and not downtown. We're out in the neighborhoods so people could participate and pick up their signs. And the number one sign flying out of those doors, Democrats for Rogers in the city of Detroit. And so we're working that. We're talking to them. We are. I've spent a lot of time down there, met with dozens of black pastors across the…
I know that. You just laid out all the people you need to come vote. How much is a couple of parts here? How much is John James helping?
He's running.
I want everybody to know, too, as governor in Michigan in an open governor seat. And also, how much of this is El Sayed's arrogance? Because I've seen a lot of traditional Democrat voters, black, like you said, in Detroit and Flint. in different communities that have large black populations, just…
