Lopez's picture of why careers feel broken to a lot of people. The deal used to be that it would be hard but you would reach the top. Her sand dune is the version where each step forward shifts under you and you can't tell whether the next one is right.
Seriously? Okay, first of all, highly recommend going duning. It's very fun.
Okay.
No, no, but the metaphor is even if the mound is going up, like your process is very, it's like very intense to get to the top of the sand dune. It is not a mountain that you walk up with a path. It's like you put a foot in, that starts sinking kind of fast. So then you put another foot up. Yes, you've technically increased where you're going, but like now you have to put your other foot up. And it's just like, it's like constantly adjusting. You're always like off balance a little bit. And like, if I had to choose between walking up a sand dune and walking up a very steep hill, I would choose the very steep hill every time because at least I know that like when I put my foot down, it's on solid ground. Yeah. And so I think we used to, we were sold a steep hill. It's going to be a grind. You have to grind. Like it's going to be hard, but it's going to be worth it. You're going to get to the top at the end. Yeah. Versus what has reality, maybe for some people, for many people is crawling up a sand dune. It's like every step, I feel like, oh, well, I got a little bit forward, but then this, the sands shifted. And now I'm actually a little bit farther behind than I was when I first stepped. And so it feels like maybe a little bit less certain. And then it's like, why do I care about climbing to the top of this? This is really hard. And not only that, I don't know that my next step is going to like be the right one. Yeah.
Yeah. I get that metaphor of seven.
A seven. I thought I killed that.
Eight, eight.
