What They Said

“When people try to say that, oh, a single payer system will be so much simpler, I just point to the physician fee schedule. It's sixteen hundred pages long just to figure out how much to pay doctors. That's just the physician fee schedule. That's not the hospital fee schedule or the SNF fee schedule or the inpatient rehab fee schedule or the medical equipment fee schedule.” — Anthony DiGiorgio, The Doctor's Lounge

Co-host DiGiorgio is responding to Mollie James on how billing complexity creates whole industries around administering payments. His point is that government-set pricing is already enormously complicated, before you add anything else to it.

That's not the hospital fee schedule or the SNF fee schedule or the inpatient rehab fee schedule or the medical equipment fee schedule, right? This is just the physician fee schedule, 1,600 pages to figure out how much to pay doctors.

Mollie James

I would just point to the IRS or the DMV or the Social Security office. If you need anything from the federal government, like that's gonna be your health care.

So the goal, the goal is the goal is to get folks, get physicians out of the system so we can do the best things for our patients, right? Um and and you're and and you have and and uh so not only are you doing what you're doing in terms of functional medicine, you also have a venture that is…

Mollie James

We do. We're just launching. So James Clinic is the example, right? We we went, I went from bankruptcy to now I'm running successful, profitable practice. You know, I I made all the mistakes along the way. So I wrote it in, you know, I'm writing the playbook to help other doctors. So there's three…
