What They Said

“It takes about $10,000 to have a two-hour show for a whole year. And so those folks that pledge between times, some of us are sustainers. And so every month we're pledging. So that all goes towards that $10,000.” — David Collingsworth, The Prison Show

During the station's pledge drive, the producer gives the cost of keeping the weekly live show on community radio for a year, a rare concrete number on what a small public-interest show costs to run.

But we still get credit. I mean, in between times, they send us a spreadsheet to tell us who's pledged. So it's not like it's a wasted pledge.

Dani Allen

No, no, it's not a wasted. So

David Collingsworth

I posted out, and I don't tell everybody a lot because Ray always told us not to mention too much about money. But it takes about $10,000 to have a two-hour show for a whole year. And so those folks that pledge between times, some of us are sustainers. And so every month we're pledging. So that all goes towards that $10,000.

Dani Allen

And we appreciate it. That's a lot of Starbucks.

David Collingsworth

A lot of Starbucks. But really, if you think about it, as many people as listening to the prison show, it's really not a lot. Everybody donate $10 and we'd have it.

Dani Allen

Absolutely.
