Chris Koerner was discussing why local business owners so readily agree to host free advertising placements from small operators. His point was that a lot of local business advertising is bought for status among peers, not for measurable return.
know, or do you ever have sleepless nights about your business? Yes. When was the last time you had a sleepless night? Like, you got to like really remove the thought process from them because they're not going to be creative enough to answer it.
Exactly. And we usually kind of start off by saying, is there anyone you don't want on the board? And they're like, no. And then we just kind of make a joke. Oh, I don't know if you have an ex-spouse or a cousin that you hate that has a business. And then they kind of just laugh. Yeah. And they go, well, is there anyone you do want on this board? Is there a realtor that comes and eats lunch here every single week that you want to make sure they get a fair shot at being on here? And then just start to walk them through that process.
It's funny with local business owners, oftentimes their billboard or their ad, they don't even really expect or hope it brings in business. It's just kind of a flex. Exactly.
