“Everybody's trying to build the software factory. They all want to build some sort of a tool that they can sell to everybody and it's just going to work. But everybody's stack is different, everybody's way of working is different, things shift so fast that if you bundle this whole thing up into a product and sell it, the state of the art is going to shift under your feet.” — Ed Grosvenor, Artisan Beer “I don't think AI is going to do it, because I still don't trust AI. I love Opus so much. I really do. And I trust it more than any AI I've ever worked with before. But I just don't trust it to merge a pull request.” — Caleb Porzio, Notes On Work - by Caleb Porzio “Nothing better than scrapping work. The AIs love scrapping. … How many times did that prevent me from scrapping stuff? It's like, well, I spent a month on this and like, I guess I'll just ship it because I spent a month on it. And now it's like, oh, I don't even know what happened. The AI did it. Yeah, who cares? I just trashed it.” — Ian Landsman, Mostly Technical “Whether or not you like writing PHP, turns out your LLM is writing the code anyway. … So the more custom code you have, the less effective the LLM is over time. So what is the answer there? Less custom code, more pre-built code. Who has the best pre-built code? PHP. Bar none.” — Matt Stauffer, Laravel Podcast “It's hard to look at these things that are just doing crud and feel like, oh, well, I'll pay for that. It's like, I could have that built in a day and it would be so much easier. I would pay for it once and not be on a subscription and I can host it myself and I'm done.” — Jacob Bennett, North Meets South Web Podcast “There's definitely more software being written. There's not more software being sold.” — Michael Dyrynda, North Meets South Web Podcast “You cannot create a SaaS like Nightwatch without having people pay per event. … Small businesses have websites up where there's not necessarily a strong correlation between requests and revenue, so you very quickly get priced out. And then the clients have this big blind spot: I'm paying all this money for this monitoring tool, but it's only getting one fiftieth of a percent of my requests.” — Ed Grosvenor, Artisan Beer “When I was working on Make VS Code Awesome, I said this has nothing to do with Laravel, I could ship it to the whole world. So let's do it for VS Code in general. And then the only people who bought it were Laravel people.” — Caleb Porzio, Notes On Work - by Caleb Porzio “If I had twelve agents running at all times, that's just twelve slop cannons that I have to clean up after. I don't understand how you're doing this.” — Caleb Porzio, Notes On Work - by Caleb Porzio “It's not so much a matter of saving money. It's a matter of I don't want to have my tools interrupt my workflow. … The moment Claude comes back and says, I can't do that because whatever, I'm immediately looking for something else that's gonna solve my problem. Because it's so easy to find something else.” — Ed Grosvenor, Artisan Beer “But now that I understand how to build with agents, it's completely shifted what I think about HubSpot. … I think it's a terrible platform.” — Sam Sappenfield, Laravel Podcast “What I want is I don't want you to build AI into your app, I want you to make AI usable from outside your app. I want you to give me the best CLI, API, MCP in the world, and give me access to my data, and I'll take care of the rest. That's what I want as a very stupid developer.” — Aaron Francis, Mostly Technical “You person listening should not be trying to sell developers. And they're only getting worse. They used to be terrible. … Because they would always, even in the day, be like, well, I could build this help desk. I only need like four months. … Now they're like, I could do this in an afternoon. And they really can. So you don't want them.” — Ian Landsman, Mostly Technical “With my day job and kids and commitments and things like that, there's just no way that I could have done all of this stuff that I wanted to do without having an army of developers behind me. It's like this stuff just gets done.” — Michael Dyrynda, North Meets South Web Podcast “Adversarial by nature is adversarial. It's built to find something no matter what. … And then now this little itty bitty change has exploded into five, 10 different commits … your scope has blown up 10x, your PR has blown up 10x. … Why can't we just ship it?” — Chris Gmyr, Slightly Caffeinated “So many bootstrapper-type companies are scared to raise their prices on their existing customers, but you have to do that. It's just free money. And okay, if you raise your price 20% and 3% of your customers go out and vibe code their own replacement, you are still up a shit ton of money.” — Ian Landsman, Mostly Technical “It's just too dangerous the way that we're living right now, which is just blind installs. And trying to review it yourself is impractical. Handing it off to a coding agent, very practical, and only looking at the diffs.” — Jacob Bennett, Laravel News Podcast “Out of the hubris of my heart, I said, but I'm a software developer and you're a property tax company. I don't know if you can afford to hire me. And they're like, brother, we can afford to hire you. So, first learning, real businesses do have money. It's not just Silicon Valley.” — Aaron Francis, Mostly Technical “I do think the value of unit tests has always been less than the value of feature tests. We just didn't want to write end-to-end tests because they were kind of a nightmare to set up and run.” — Aaron Francis, Mostly Technical “We went and made a config file that lives in the root of the repo that has basically glob paths for must-have human review, for like auth and migrations … And then if there is anything that needs human review, that blocks it from auto-approving the pull request, because then that means a human has to have the final approach.” — TJ Miller, Slightly Caffeinated “If you're going to call something out, validate that you can actually point to the thing that you're calling out. And if you can't, then just drop it. So just that call out increased the correctness of the review probably 15 or 20 points.” — Chris Gmyr, Slightly Caffeinated
