Jim Geraghty said about Josh Shapiro, in 3 Martini Lunch – Political Humor & Commentary on October 14, 2026.
Jim Geraghty of National Review on 3 Martini Lunch, in October 2026, floating a Democratic ticket of Sen. Jon Ossoff and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for 2028 while speaking as a Republican-leaning observer.
They likely will not. What do you have on this one, Jim?
Sure.
…conservative right of center guy hat and just think, like, if I were a Democrat, what would I want? And one of my crazier ideas is a ticket that would consist of John Ossoff, the senator from Georgia, and Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, for an all-Jewish Democratic ticket, really upsetting everybody who's upset about Gaza, but also just kind of recognizing that, like, you know, Pennsylvania is probably the single most important swing state. You nominate a governor who's been elected statewide a couple of times, probably going to win re-election by a wide margin. That would only help you in that state. And John Ossoff is probably going to win for the second time by a pretty solid margin in one of the seven most important states. And he's, you know, he's fairly young. It's a southern state, you know, like I'm just thinking strategically, this is a guy who you think we, and he says he's not interested. Now, of course, Barack Obama was on Meet the Press in like 2007 and said, oh, I'm not…
And then like a couple months later, you announce you're running for president.
So I don't know whether he thinks he's got a shot to be somebody's running mate or he genuinely does not want to run. But I just found it interesting. And I think if you're a Republican... If he really doesn't run, that takes off. That takes one of the more intriguing chess pieces.
Off the board.

Stacey Garrity said about Josh Shapiro, in The Sean Hannity Show on September 19, 2026.
Stacey Garrity, the Republican nominee for Pennsylvania governor and Shapiro's 2026 opponent, on The Sean Hannity Show in September 2026. The segment covered Shapiro's proposed state health regulations and the campaign.
I totally agree, Sean. It's really it's unconscionable.
It's shameful.
And Pennsylvanians didn't put up with it before. And that's why we have the constitutional amendment. And they're certainly not going to put up with it again. But again, Jason mentioned we have a governor more interested in Pennsylvania Avenue than helping Pennsylvania families. And, you know, everybody knows the most dangerous place to be in Harrisburg is between Josh Shapiro and a camera.
OK, so, Stacey, I've looked at your platform. I think you'd be a great governor for the for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I really do. I know Linda, who's our executive producer, would would love you to get elected. I know many other people in the Commonwealth. I won't even mention top-ranked…
Oh, absolutely.
He is for biological men competing against our girls in sports. What kind of common sense is that? removing the word mother and pregnant woman out of the Department of Health regulations. He has sued the administration.
Astead Herndon said about Josh Shapiro, in America, Actually with Astead Herndon on August 1, 2026.
Astead Herndon on his podcast America, Actually, explaining why he picked Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro in a fantasy draft of 2028 Democratic contenders.
All this talk about electability. We need white guys, straight people, all out the window. We're going limbs in 2028. Okay, it is my turn, and I am torn between a couple. I like Raphael Warnock. I'm going to go against the grain and say Josh Shapiro. I
was just going to pick
Josh. That was my next pick. Because while I agree about the kind of tide turning, particularly against Israel among the Democratic base, I could see a group of kind of progressive candidates or candidates fighting for that group, splitting votes, and someone like Josh Shapiro being able to really kind of do what Biden did in 2020 and coalesce a moderate lane. So obviously, moderate lane means black voters means I think some people we haven't necessarily seen him win with just yet, but I do think there is an opportunity, particularly if we see a split electorate among the AOCs and Kamala Harris's and everyone else. So I am going to go with Josh Shapiro and the moderate wing striking back.
If he were the nominee, I'd vote for him yesterday. And
we are down to our
final rounds, y'all. So this is the time for the spicy or maybe out-the-box picks. Think about where your team might need some new voices or maybe someone who can gobble up a lane you don't have.
